This was the twelfth meeting of the National WSUD Compliance Network.
In this meeting, CSIRO’s Justine Barrett provided early findings of her research which aims to reduce plastic pollution from reaching our waterways and oceans by improving litter capture in stormwater systems across Australia. Justine believes in the importance of industry involvement in research and works very closely with the stormwater industry. Her work has analysed audit results from 1,269 gross pollutant traps (GPTs) across 33 Australian municipalities, surveyed industry stakeholders to identify barriers to GPT maintenance, and is trialling AI-powered litter monitoring cameras and GPT level sensors.
Additionally, Daniel Rider provided an update on the WSUD Maintenance Compliance Framework, including the current focus on finding an organisation to pilot the implementation of the framework.
